The Dancerssss

before finishing uni, myself and 3 fellow students got involved with the SO Festival on an internship basis. our role was to design and make the outfits for one of the dance pieces that was to have some british dancers, and some swedish dancers. the whole festival was also linked with the run up to the Olympics and had a sport theme. the inspiration for the costumes was the olympic rings and the swedish and british flags.

when everything was finished to actually see the costumes worn and performed in the street with people watching was such an acheievment and made the whole experience so worth while and valuable.

the project also included a trip to sweden in which we met the dancers, watched them rehearse, and took measurements.

Mad Cowes in Hong Kong

Hong Kong was educational!

i have been given this amazing oppurtunity designing for Mad Cowes as they re-launch with new owners Nigel and Judy, and i have been given the chance to design the whole collection for summer 2012.... the schedule is tight but i know it will all work out

anyway... having only just graduated, im still learning alot about how the whole the fashion industry operates, and apparently visiting the factories once/twice a year is standard procedure... i didnt realise quite how vital a trip like this is until i got there.

myself, Judy and Mad Cowes account manager Bella made the 12.30hour flight (hell! especially if sat next to someone who doesnt get the hint that you dont want a conversation) to make sure all designs had been interpreted correctly, fabric qualities were good, and everything was as should be. there were a few problems but im sure every company goes through these processes, and everything was resolved so im pretty excited now waiting for the salesmen samples to arrive!

Hong Kong was an impressive place and im sure had it not been for the incedible heat and humidity (that hit you smack in the face like it does when you open an oven door) there would of been plenty to go to/see etc. however most days ended up being spent on the hotel roof top by the pool/in the pool cooling off....

fashion on the street was inspiring too, the cantonese are so stylish! however all have coat hanger figures so im sure if they were a hessian sack they would look good....

Pipps!

last year i was given the oppurtunity to help with the designing of a range of espadrilles to be launched this year. it was great to have the chance to follow something right through from the beginning stages, to seeing the first samples and finally seeing them actually in shops.

i think i came to the very first meeting with 75 initial designs, and that was twindled down, and then again in a further meeting, to a final collection.

so anyway.... here they are....

go check them out at http://www.pipps.co.uk/

Lincoln University Graduate Fashion Show

(all photos taken by myself)

So, the fashion show was amazing!

I was really pleased with how my collection looked on the catwalk and my parents were proud, what more can you ask for?

Final Year Collection- TIMES SQUARE

So this is it.... the final year collection!
Something that I have worked 3years towards and paid a fortune in uni and accomodation fees for! But its all worth it!

I wanted to focus on New York as my inspiration for my final collection as I find the city so incredible as it is, and had THE most amazing time when I visited in FEB 2010, so how better to remember it than to base the whole of my third year doing a project researching it!

I ended up focusing on Times Square at night and the neon glare and urban glamour feel you get there, and basically tried to channel that into some sort of collection... and I'm pretty proud to be honest.

I wanted to use quite random fabrics too, but that worked together in some sort of wierd collabaration. So that ended up being bright orange sequins and flourescent jersey, to dark green wax (that smelt quite bad) and leather.

I've included a couple of technical drawings also that were done on illustrator.

BGA Glove Competition

(images from www.johnlewis.com, designs by myself, copyright John Lewis)

My Gloves!!
Last year I entered the BGA Design Competition and I ended up winning the Dents Award for the most commercial design! And then just to add to that I was approached by John Lewis to put the design into production! Over the moon! So the glove was available in John Lewis over Winter for a few months.

Who Run The World?

Could this woman be any more stylish??
Beyonce Runs the World!
Alexander McQueen, Emilio Pucci and Givenchy all in one music video...

Few of my 'Creations' to get this blog rolling....

So... Thought I'd better jump on this blogging band-wagon.

I made this dress in second year at Uni for a project inspired by English Heritage Gardens. I decided that an Autumn/Winter cocktail dress was in order, hence the ice queen colours. And basically to cut a long process short, I used the rings and lines of the bark of trees as the main fuel for my ideas and tried to recreate this with the gathered skirt/single short leg. And then the detached sleeves/arm warmers (probably wouldn't keep your arms that warm) are made from a sheer fabric so the slender outline of the arm can still be seen.....

Enjoy
